The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.
If you profit from constructive criticism you will be elected to the wise men's hall of fame. But to reject criticism is to harm yourself and your own interests. Proverbs 16:31,32 TLB
A psychologist once noted that many people find themselves gravitating towards those who continually flatter them and praise their work, only to feel a growing resentment that their spouses and family members fail to comment to the same degree on their many positive attributes. "I try to point out to them," the psychologist says, "that they are fantasizing about what the perfect home life should be like, and concluding that the marketplace is the true reality of their lives. The truth, however is that our work is often the place where we lives veiled lives of fantasy, and home is the genuine reality check."
Criticism is always tough so swallow, but in the end it tends to do us more good than a diet of flattery. In either case we do well to value those speak the truth to us--good or bad.
